Newport Night Shelter getting ready for a ninth year
This winter will mark 9 years of Newport Nightshelter!
During this time they have provided 7886 emergency bed spaces to those who find themselves homeless during the cold winter months. They couldn’t do this without the partnering churches / volunteers – they are grateful to everyone who has been involved with the project. They provide a hot supper and drinks, a warm, safe bed for the night, toiletries, breakfast in the morning, and genuine friendship.
Over and above meeting the immediate need for emergency shelter, they try to get to know our guests and tailor the support we offer to their individual needs. This commonly involves help with finding more permanent accommodation and support to overcome drug or alcohol dependence. It may be as simple as lending a listening ear or providing clean, dry clothing.
This year they will partner with 17 churches to provide emergency winter accommodation to those who find themselves homeless during the cold, winter months.
The opening dates have been confirmed for this year for this winter’s Nightshelter which will be an 18 week project. The opening night will be Monday 20th November 2017 and they will close on Sunday 25th March 2018.
If you would like to volunteer for the Newport Night Shelter at one of the participating churches please contact Tanya Lawrence on 01633 243235.
